Fidel Castro Attends Surprise Meeting

HAVANA TIMES, Jan. 21 — In Miami the police have been organizing for possible violence; in Cuba speculation abounds, the mainstream US press writes his epitaphs and former President Fidel Castro keeps them all guessing.  He met for a half hour on Wednesday with Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, discussing Barack Obama’s inauguration speech and other international issues.

“We talked about many subjects. He looked very well,” said Fernandez on the final day of her three-day visit to Cuba, reported IPS.

Argentina’s Telam news agency quoted Fernandez as saying that Fidel Castro believes Obama is “a sincere person with good ideas.”

“I’m very content with this visit, it couldn’t have ended better,” said Fernandez before her send-off at the Jose Marti International Airport by President Raul Castro. The Argentine leader was headed for Caracas where she will meet with her Venezuelan counterpart Hugo Chavez.
