HAVANA TIMES — Former Cuban President Fidel Castro met today in Havana with Bolivian President Evo Morales, and the two “talked about the bonds of brotherhood and growing cooperation between the two countries”, reported dpa news.

After leaving Cuba, Morales went to Caracas to meet with embattled President Nicolas Maduro before traveling home to La Paz.

“Fidel and Evo reminisced over important moments in the process of the progressive integration of our peoples and the role played, particularly by the unforgettable Hugo Chavez and Cristina Kirchner,” said an official statement read by an announcer on Cuba’s government run television.

During the meeting, the two exchanged views on the political situation in Latin America and “imperialist efforts to reverse the social political movement in the American region,” said the note.

The official statement said that Fidel Castro and Evo Morales “warned of the grave dangers that threaten human existence.”

So far no pictures were published of the meeting and no more details were made available, noted dpa.

Fidel Castro lives almost completely removed from the public spotlight at 89 years, although he often receives foreign personalities passing through Havana.  On May 10, he met with the Kuwaiti Ahmad al-Fahad al-Sabah, president of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) and considered one of the most influential sports leaders.

During his stay in Cuba that lasted little more than a day, Evo Morales also met with his counterpart Raul Castro with whom he reviewed the state of bilateral relations.

The two governments signed a framework agreement that seeks to promote cooperation in areas such as health, education, culture and the economy.

The agreement was signed by Bolivian Foreign Minister David Choquehuanca and Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca, in the presence of presidents Morales and Castro.

Morales made a stopover in Venezuela on his return trip from Havana to La Paz and held a private meeting with Maduro at the International Airport on the Caribbean coast near Caracas.

The Venezuelan leader said he spoke to Morales about his plans to confront the external threats, on a day when the Venezuelan armed forces carried out defensive military exercises.

Maduro told the press that he explained to Morales his agenda when Venezuela becomes the president pro tempore of the Mercosur trade block in July.

“As you know, Bolivia is in the final phase of its incorporation as a full member. I explained [to Evo] the goal of Venezuela to fight for the right to happiness of our people,” said Maduro.

“I said that Venezuela is preparing to defend social rights within Mercosur,” he added.

Maduro praised the “solidarity, the company and the advice” from Morales, also for being in constant communication to address threats “that exist against the revolutionary processes…”

At the same time, Morales said Maduro can count on both his support and that of the Bolivian people.

Evo said he was very sorry what happened in Brazil with the recent ouster of President Dilma Rousseff.

“The empire looks for any human rights record to intervene and take over our natural resources, but when we are united the people will continue the struggle,” said Morales. “You can count on the support of the Bolivian people and their social movements; we are a great anti-imperialist family,” he added.

Morales said he witnessed part of military maneuvers in Venezuela, which he described as a “great job” and at the same time expressed his respect for the Venezuelan armed forces.

  • Oh so Maduro’s doing a great job then? What is your point?
You attack me and not the issues. You are one of those people that can’t see the forest for the trees, living in a pretend utopia which exists only in your mind. Maduro and the “bolivarian revolution” are bad hopeless and hapless jokes, that have resulted in total failure, and the suffering of millions. Maduro is delusional

  • The Falkland Islands are 400 km from Argentina. 97% of the people of the Falklands voted to remain British. There are those who don’t believe in the people having free votes and determining their own futures – that is what ‘socialismo’ imposes in Cuba.
Sin is removing the opportunity for freedom of expression, to not allow parents within their own homes to teach their own children anything which is counter to communism – SIN is its rightful name.

  • Hahaha!

  • Sorry for letting Kennedy’s insult go by. He has a habit of doing such and I have to be very careful to catch those. He has a very hard time sticking to the articles and loves to go off on a tangent, usually to attack the US.

  • After only 11 words, you are able to know all that about “leperman”?

  • …of their land? Not according to the Bible.(you like to quote scripture)

  • Socialism as you described it has NEVER existed. I agree that what we have is imperfect and often grossly unfair but what you suggest is against human nature.

  • Your rumbling sounds like an episode of that old TV show, Fantasy Island.

  • Brit Bob, What is so wrong about Evo supporting Argentina in their claim to the Falkland Islands? Does Britain not keep silent when Israel is brutally robbing the Palestinians of their land? Do you let out even a tiny squeak in protest? We must not and should not be afraid to confront sin and call it by its correct name for sin is sin and can only be called SIN for that is its rightful name!!

  • I wouldn’t say he’s screwed up at all. In the last election he gained twice the votes of his nearest rival and even been praised by the Wall Street journal.

  • INFORMED, Treat us fairly. Deal with us without robbing us of our natural resorces and you will see how we outshine your capitalist system, for, under our Socialist system, everybody will have access to the wealth of the land. There will be no homelessness, there will be no one searching the garbage bins looking for discarded food to survive. No one will be sleeping on the streets, under bridges, in delapidated builindgs. What kind of inhumane system would allow persons to possess billions upon billions of dollars while there are persons living in squalour? What kind of system is this?

  • Leperman, You are one of those sensless and uncaring people of the world who possess no love, no compassion, no feelings at all for your fellowmen. All that the Catros, the Chavez’s, the Morales’, the Maduro’s of the world are saying is, “Live and let live. Do not hog all the resources of the land to yourself. Share some with us, because, if it was not for our CHEAP Labour, you would not have possessed what you have. Compensate us for assisting you, Treat us like the human beings we were created to be. We can all exist like a TEAM instead of the Master and the slave. The better we team up together, is the more prosperous all of us would become. But No! People like you want it all for yourself. You must live and my children and I must die! Where is your conscience man? Your conscience is supposed to be the VOICE OF GOD inside of you. Do you attend church? At the final chapter of your life, will you be able to take all the wealth you have earned from exploiting your fellowmen with you?

  • Maybe Evo will use the Bolivian navy to invade the Falklands.

  • You got that one right Moses! Ermle could have added North Korea and Syria but is probably going to use them for his next joke!

  • OK, I get it. You’re a comedian?

  • ….Oh, you mean the Falkland Islands.

  • Yeah….how them countries doing by the way? Not great huh?

  • Long live the great and glorious revolution as manifest in Venezuela, Boliva and Cuba. Forward Ever! Backward Never!

  • Evo should be counting his lucky stars that he hasn’t screwed up as badly as Maduro.

  • Anyone that supports Maduro is no friend of the Venezuelan people.
