OAS Postpones Debate on Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, May 22 – The Organization of American States (OAS) postponed until next week its discussion on Cuba’s possible return to the regional body, which should have taken place Friday during the regular session of the Permanent Council in Washington, reported IPS.

The Permanent Council was to discuss for the first time a possible return of Cuba nearly a half century since was expelled in 1962.

Honduras was reportedly set to present a draft resolution regarding the island’s reentry, although the idea of a return to the OAS has been rejected by the Cuban government, which sees the body as a poor representative of Latin American and Caribbean interests.

  • I hope and pray that Cuba will become part of The Organization of American States muy pronto.
