Puerto Rico Relief Slashed by US Treasury Department

HAVANA TIMES – The tragedy of hurricane Maria continues to strike Puerto Rico eight months after it swept over the island, reports Democracy Now

On Wednesday, Puerto Rico’s governor Ricardo Rossello said the US Treasury Department has unexpectedly slashed the disaster relief loan for the island, cut from $4.7 billion USD to $2 billion.

The bad news comes as the Army Corps of Engineers says parts of Puerto Rico will not have electricity restored until the end of late May.
