Happy Cubans with Their New Laws

Now Yes!! Did you see? I can scream Viva Fidel, Viva Raul as loud as I want to. Viva la Revolucion… with no problems. It’s my right!
Of course! And I can put on a T-shirt with the Cuban flag or put one in my window or on the balcony.

HAVANA TIMES – In the latest session of National Assembly truly revolutionary measures were approved, which will lead substantially to the wellbeing of the Cuban people.

It doesn’t matter that there is very little to eat on the table of the Cuban worker, and that to get even that they had to invest a lot of time and money.

It doesn’t matter that public transportation is in frequent crisis and things will most likely be worse during summer vacations.

The good thing is we have symbols and we know how to use our flag…

  • Mr MacD, your summing up of the current situation in the UK is flawless.

  • For your imformation because happens that you dont know that most of the press in USA is control by the left socialist leaning. Not the conservatists. And we admire president Trump and all of what he is doing. Bringing back to were it belongs and not were socialist democratic party wants.!

  • Your buffoon being born in the US – who knows -maybe in the Trump Tower, may well Nick be a merited source of humour. I agree with your comment about the British sense of humour – without equal in the English speaking world, but the future following Brexit – with or without “a deal”, looks to be devoid of opportunity for that humour. Note, don’t disagree with that label of buffoon.
Both the left and right in the UK are divided with only the Liberals demonstrating unity – maybe why they are gaining respect. Who votes for what, why and when is a morass of confusion. I doubt if anyone – especially a buffoon, can obtain a parliamentary majority for either “a deal” or a “no deal”.
Brexit will go down in history as a key cause of political disintegration in the two major parties – who both appear to have only one thing in common within their own parties – dissension!

Don’t take my comments however as an indication of approval that such problems are avoided by totalitarianism because dictators are without dissent.

  • Hey Mr MacD,
It’s always a pleasure to confirm the accuracies within your statements but I also reserve the right to expand upon any such accuracies where necessary !!
Regarding what the British are going to do to get a deal with the EU…..
    Search me.
The whole business is a symptom of the the modern trend of trying to solve complex issues by means of lumpen, simplistic, nationalistic populism.
The latest twist seems to involve a compulsive liar (who’s buffoonery passes for charisma in this worrying age) becoming some kind of saviour who’s gonna teach those Europeans a thing or two…..
British are renowned for a sense of humour. We do like to laugh.
If nothing else, it looks like the British will have a leader who they can all get together and laugh at.
    Not with. At.

  • Thank you Nick for confirming my statement that the people of “America” tired of paying taxes without representation.
So what Nick are the people of the UK going to do to get “a deal” with the EU?

  • What new laws?
Old communist dinosaurs are running a dictatorship with a new puppet president.

  • You are 100 % right!

  • Mr MacD and any deluded citizens of the USA…..
The great and worthy Revolution which culminated in rightful U.S independence started off as a revolt against taxation without representation.
This revolt against taxation without representation started off in mainland Britain and subsequently spread to various British colonies including the part of the world which formed the fledgling USA……

  • Westpalm…..
Anyone who tries to compare Barack or Michelle Obama to monkeys is a sick MF.
Unfortunately this sickening trend is to the fore in the modern US of A.
In pre fascist Germany people thought that this type of sicko trend was cool too…
Never in their wildest nightmares did they think that it would end up resulting in a holocaust…..

  • Completely true! Cuban Dictatorship will never allow a Cuban citizen to say ” Down the Communist Dictatorship or Down The Fucking and Destructive Revolution of Castro”. All of these new laws in Cuba are a lot of bullshit.

  • Interesting comment Christine Marie Wallace. You could have added that the term British is used to describe citizens of the United Kingdom, Wales and Northern Ireland. but excludes Eire which is part of the British Isles. The United Kingdom is a reference to the Union of England and Scotland, although including Wales (only ever a principality) and Northern Ireland (populated predominantly by people of Scots descent) are included.
So the confusion of terms affects Nick’s being English, whilst living in the UK, as part of the British Isles.
The current British Queen Elzabeth II is:
“By the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and of Her other Realms and Territories, Queen, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.”
Her father George VI was crowned as “King of Great Britain and Emperor of India.”
The title of Elizabeth’s family in the Great Britain was for six generations the House of Hanover, then following the death of Queen Victoria became the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha which was changed to House of Windsor in 1917.
But no doubt Nick knew all that!
It was George III who in a deal with Spain, exchanged Cuba for Florida – only to lose the latter some three years later when the people of “America” tired of paying taxes without representation. Maybe he should have kept Cuba?
As my grandmother used to say: “You may laugh.”

  • Capitalism socialism communism are all tried but none work for everyone. The only cure is to get rid of greed. There would be no poverty if there was no greed. There’s nothing wrong with being wealthy. Jesus said the Love of Money is the root of evil. The strong should help the weak. The media is behind a corrupt agenda to dumb down and mislead people. Seek the truth first always.

  • The question is not whether the new laws protects Cuban citizens from screaming at the top of their lungs, “viva Fidel or Raul or the Revolution.” The question is if Revolution” The question is if the scream “down w/ the Castros dictatorship and down w/ the repressive Revolution” – will the Cuban KGB beat them, throw them in jail and make them disappear as always?

  • In a nutshell, in the US you can disagree with anything; in fact I think people disagree too much. I remember Obama’s face on a monkey and a guy from Univision tv comparing Michell Obama to characters from Planet of the Apes. In Cuba doing this means jail for a long long time.

  • Who ever like communism or socialism……go to live to Cuba … enjoy it , give the chance to a people who really want to live their own life……. I’m Cuban …..

  • If you can tell me another country that has America and its actual name, I could see your point. I have not noticed other countries which are referred to as Canada of America or Mexico of America or the Dominican Republic of America or Mexico of America. It is not a part of their official name.

Furthermore, it is also more difficult to say a “person from the United States” rather than an American. You are British. What am I? I’m a person from the United States. It is not people in the United States who call ourselves American, other countries do this also. Your argument connecting the use of the term America with being the biggest and the best is not a strong one.

  • Nick,
A big applause to you. Couldn’t have said it any better!

  • I am uncertain Nick about your claim to personal humility, (excuse me having a giggle) but agree that the US is the overwhelmingly dominant power in the Americas. That has not occurred by chance, but by purpose. commencing with the Monroe Doctrine of 1823 which stated: “Any further efforts by European nations to colonize land or interfere with states in North or South America would be regarded as acts of aggression requiring US intervention.” That defined all the Americas from Canada to Chile as lying within the US sphere of interest.
On July 20, 1895 the US Secretary of State wrote to Britain’s Foreign Secretary: “The United States is practically sovereign on this continent and its fiat is law upon the subjects to which it confines its interposition.”
The US omitted to mention that the US had declared war upon Canada in June 1812, resulting in Washington being invaded and the White House set afire.
Hegemony by the US is undeniable.
As I have recently expressed in these pages, the current incumbent in the White House is increasingly pursuing policies that can be described as fascistic. US citizens are well advised to beware and to zealously guard their democratic rights.
But, the “state of the union” does not excuse the excesses of the communist dictatorship of Cuba which can be properly criticized.

  • Mr Manuel E. G.,
When you say America, I am not quite sure what you are referring to.
For me America is a continent. But for some weird reason which I would put down to some innate delusion of superiority, many folks from the USA refer to their country as America. This implies that all other parts of the continent are some kind of slipstream or by-product.
I say this as a humble man from the UK, who regards America as a continent and the USA as the overwhelmingly dominant power within that continent.
I always regard the whole continent, including the USA as fascinating – just as fascinating as the other myriad parts which make up this wonderful but deeply flawed and endangered planet.
However, let me tell you this:
In the USA the independence of the press/media (notwithstanding it’s ridiculously pro capitalist bias) is something to cling on to if you wish to trumpet U.S. democratic credentials.
But this independence is under serious threat in the post-truth internet age.
The foundations of U.S Capitalism and any of it’s accompanying and remaining democratic delusions are a-quivering and a-shaking and a-quaking in this brave new ‘SEND HER BACK’ era.
It is becoming ever more hypocritical and deluded for folks from the USA to be pouring any kinda scorn on Cuba for it’s poor governance……

  • Total control of the media is not new. The Nazis in Germany perfected it and The Soviet Union tried. In America commercial attention grabbers are everywhere including schools and the once sacrosanct privacy of the home. But in America we can always unplug. The 1984 scenario have not won yet or at least we are still offered certain legal protections as it relates to the events following The 9 / 11 Terrorist Attack, i.e, the bombings of The Twin Towers in New York City by Bin Laden’ s Al Qaeda group. I am sure many Cubans today turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to The State run propaganda too.
