A Revolutionary People Are Like a Steel Wall

HAVANA TIMES – Anyone who thinks that a military intervention against a revolutionary people can easily bring about a change in government or introduce a counter-revolutionary one, which bows down to the US’ imperialist interests, is wrong because these people’s dignity is invincible.

You can overthrow a professional army if you have more men and weapons, but not when this army is an inherent part of the population, or the very population itself with a rifle in hand and wearing a uniform.

For example, in Cuba, we already had an experience in 1961 when a brigade was trained and armed to launch a surprise attack on the island and seize a part of the country where the puppet government would land (which had already been prepared and was onboard the US boat), which would then request a US-led military invasion to crush the budding revolution.

The act of sabotage that was the explosion of the La Coubre steamboat, to destroy arms shipments from Belgium, wasn’t enough for them. Attacks on Cuban airports, where they destroyed a part of Cuba’s few fighter planes, wasn’t enough for them. The Cuban people in uniform and organized into militias (with scarce training at that time), plus a group from the Rebel Army and the police, thwarted Imperialism’s plans in less than 72 hours.

Today, we are millions of Cubans, with better training and with the slogan that Major General Antonio Maceo taught us in his day: “Whoever tries to conquer Cuba, will gather the dust of her blood-soaked soil, if he does not perish in battle.”

Venezuela is being threatened with a military intervention, with the support of other puppet governments within the region. They have tried to destabilize the country with public acts of violence which have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of people (civilians and the police), and all because they supported the government, but they have failed. They orchestrated a coup d’etat against President Hugo Chavez, but the Chavista people and army suppressed the coup in less than 72 hours. They have tried to paralyze oil production to take the country’s main livelihood away, but they have failed.

More recently, they’ve conjured up a self-proclaimed “interim president”, trying to introduce “humanitarian aid” to cause disorder in the country’s interior, so that the self-proclaimed puppet president can ask for a military intervention; but they have failed. The US took great haste to recognize the self-proclaimed president and asked other governments who are submissive to Imperialism, to recognize him too; but the puppet doesn’t have the support of the army or the people, and he is slowly losing air. He recently called for a public gathering and only a few people showed up, yet when the constitutionally-elected president Nicolas Maduro calls for people to gather, streets and squares fill up.

Some of the world’s leading countries (including superpowers such as China, Russia, India, Iran and many others), support President Maduro and are against any foreign interference. Even the European Union has said that the situation in Venezuela needs to be resolved by the Venezuelans themselves, with dialogue and without foreign interference.

The US has called upon the UN Security Council to approve of an intervention in Venezuela, but it failed. The world is tired of seeing and suffering US-led interventions, with its aftershocks of destruction and death and it doesn’t want Latin America (declared a Peace Zone) to experience something like this ever again because the Venezuelan people won’t give themselves up and they will fight alongside their army until they defeat the Imperialist enemy, because a revolutionary people is like a steel wall that no attack can pierce through.
