15th Terry Fox Marathon Saturday in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — The 15th Cuban edition of the Terry Fox Run will take place on Saturday across all of Cuba, where organizers expect a massive influx of domestic and foreign runners, according to their announcement on Tuesday.

More than two million marathoners are expected to participate. During the last seven editions of the run, also called the “Marathon of Hope,” Cuba had the highest level of participation worldwide, noted Prensa Latina

The start will occur simultaneously across the country at 10:00 am and will be broadcast of the time on Radio Reloj.

The event is held each year in honor of the famous runner Terry Fox, who founded the event with the aim of raising funds for cancer research, a disease which he suffered until his death at age 22. He began his effort to run — with a prosthesis on his right leg — an average of 42 miles a day for 143 days.
