All Set for Cuba’s July 26 in Ciego

HAVANA TIMES, July 25 — All preparations are made for tomorrow’s July 26 commemoration of National Rebelliousness Day in the central Cuban city of Ciego de Avila.

Broadcast live on national TV and radio, the event begins early at 7:00 a.m. Cuban time (EDT).  See the ceremony live.

The day remembers the attacks on the Moncanda and Manuel de Cespedes garrisons in Santiago de Cuba and Bayamo on July 26, 1953.

The attacks were unsuccessful militarily but are considered the spark that led to the Cuban revolution five and a half years later.

It is customary for the Cuban president to give the keynote speech at the close of the remembrance.
