HAVANA TIMES — UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, welcomed Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla on Sunday, reported the official media on the island.

The foreign minister heads the Cuban delegation to the high-level segment of the 69th session of the UN General Assembly, which begins Wednesday.

Ban Ki-moon reiterated his gratitude for Cuba’s decision to send medical personnel to confront the epidemic of Ebola in Africa, and asked to transfer his gratitude to President Raul Castro.

During one of its sessions, the General Assembly is expected to once again overwhelmingly express its dissaproval of the 52-year  unilateral United States embargo on Cuba, designed to block the island’s development as a way to hurt the Castro government and promote discontent among the Cuban population.
