HAVANA TIMES — Amid the controversy over the More Doctors program, Brazilian Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, travels to Cuba after a visit to Jamaica that began on Thursday, reported EFE.
Figueiredo will meet with Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and Minister of Commerce Rodrigo Malmierca to discuss bilateral trade and the investment agenda, according to a statement from the Brazilian Foreign Ministry.
They will also discuss issues concerning cooperation between the BRICS group, comprised of Brazil, Russia , India , China and South Africa, and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), the statement added.
The controversy regarding the More Doctors program in Brazil is over the low wages received by the participating Cuban professionals and the flight of at least five of the over 7,000 Cuban doctors participating.
According to AP, the labor prosecutor Sebastiao Caixeta will demand that the government of Dilma Rousseff correct the “illegalities” of More Doctors to ensure that Cubans receive the same pay and conditions as other professionals involved in the program.
