HAVANA TIMES, March 30 — A Cuban court asked for 20 years of prison for Conrado Hernández, former trade delegate of the Basque government on the island, for having revealed information on the state of health of former President Fidel Castro, Elizardo Sánchez, president of the Cuban Commission of Human Rights and National Reconciliation, affirmed.
Hernández’ detention in February 2009 was related to the subsequent dismissal of several Cuban government officials, among them former Vice President Carlos Lage and former Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque.
Neither Lage nor Perez Roque were put on trial for having abused the “sweetness of power”, as Fidel Castro charged.
