Cuba Announces Military Exercises

HAVANA TIMES, Nov. 16 – Cuba will put to the test its military capacity next November 26-28, when the island will be the scenario of the Bastion 2009 exercise, in which regular troops, Ministry of the Interior units and other structures of the territorial defensive system will participate, a note by the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced today, reported IPS.

Ever since the 1959 Cuban revolution, and especially after the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion, the Cuban military has tried to make preparedness to fend off an attack as a top priority and deterrent, even during hard economic times.
