Cuba Census Kicks Off Nationwide

HAVANA TIMES — Cuba’s 2012 population census kicked off on Saturday morning nationwide with 55,000 census takers pounding the streets.

The Cuban census takes place under the 2010 World Program on Population and Housing Censuses of the United Nations.

The effort seeks to bring up to date the country’s principal demographic, economic, housing and educational statistics. The data will serve as a tool for the country’s development plans.

The National Office of Statistics (ONE) publishes Cuba’s important statistical information.
