Cuba Extends Housing Subsidies

HAVANA TIMES – The Cuban government has decided to extend the subsidies offered to citizens for construction by personal initiative, reports Granma newspaper on Monday.

The new resolutions promote the increase of up to five thousand pesos (250 USD) for materials’ transportation expenses.

Previously, the figure for the basic unit residential building was up to 80 thousand pesos, and could only be used to pay construction materials and labor. With the current changes the figure may reach up to 85 thousand pesos.

If the subsidy was granted to build houses located in areas with seismic activity, the total amount to subsidize, including transportation, may be extended up to 90 thousand pesos, stated in the note.
