HAVANA TIMES – The Cuban government began construction of a solar farm on the outskirts of the western city of Pinar del Rio, some 140 kilometers west of Havana, Xinhua reported.
According to Efren Marcos Espinosa, in charge of the project, the investment is 27 percent advanced and should be completed in 2016 with locally manufactured solar panels, capable of withstanding winds up to 160 Km/h with a generation of 2.5 megawatts of power.
Although this is the first park of its kind in Cuba, the Ernesto Guevara Electronic Components Factory in the province of Pinar del Rio, produces solar panels even for export.
The Alhucema Solidarity Initiatives Association based in Seville, Spain also sends medical supplies to Cuba.
