Cuba Loses in Straight Sets to Croatia

HAVANA TIMES, Oct. 29 — The Cuban women’s volleyball team lost 3-0 on Friday to Croatia (23-25 32-34 21-25) in its opening match of the World Volleyball Championships taking place in Japan.  The “Morenas del Caribe” play Germany on Saturday.

In other Group C play the United States defeated Thailand three sets to one (23-25 25-17 25-17 25-21) and Germany breezed by Kazakhstan in straight sets (25-21 25-14 25-16).

Four teams in each of the four pools will go on to the second round of the tournament.  Each team plays five first round matches.
