HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 15 — An initial report from Cuba says the earth tremor off its southeastern coast early Thursday morning was actually of 4.5 magnitude and not 6.0 quake as stated in numerous foreign press reports.
The quake was the eighth registered this year and was felt in several municipalities of Granma province. No damage was reported in the initial note from Prensa Latina news agency.
The Cuban Seismology Service says the quake was located in the Caribbean at 37 miles (59 kms.) southeast of Cabo Cruz in the province of Granma at 4:43 local time (EDT), at 9 miles (15 kms.) depth.
