Cuba Wants New Immigration Accord

HAVANA TIMES, Jan. 29 — The Cuban government will propose a new immigration accord to the United States when representatives hold their second meeting on February 19 in Havana, announced Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez.

The current agreement was reached in the height of the rafters’ crisis in the summer of 1994, notes IPS.

Dialogue on the crucial issue on the bilateral agenda was resumed in 2009 by the Obama administration. Talks suggested by Cuba had proven impossible when George W. Bush was in the White House.
