HAVANA TIMES — Cuban boxer Arnaldo Mesa, Olympic silver medalist and world triple medalist, died on Tuesday of a heart attack, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
Mesa, just 46, had been admitted into a hospital in the eastern city of Holguin since last week, where he was being treated as a result of a stroke.
The remains of the fighter will be transferred today to the Frank Pais municipality in Holguin Province for burial.
Mesa won the silver medal at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics and bronze medals at the World Championships in Reno in 1986, Moscow in 1989 and Sydney in 1991, in addition to winning the crown at the Pan American Games in Havana in 1991 and in Mar del Plata (Argentina) in 1995.
