HAVANA TIMES — The Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, in its 34th edition, will recognize three teachers of the seventh art: Italy’s Michelangelo Antonioni, France’s Chris Marker, and Czech filmmaker Jan Svankmajer.
The festivities will take place from December 4 to 14, when partial retrospectives will be presented of these three cult artists, said a representative of the Cuban Film Institute to the Prensa Latina news agency.
The Havana festival will pay tribute to these directors who — using fiction, documentaries, animation or experimental cinema — “contributed to the evolution of film language,” according to the organizers.
This winter season celebration of the “seventh art” in Cuba will also highlight the centennial of Puerto Rican cinema with the showing of a dozens of films from that country.
