Cuban Government on Summit of the Americas

HAVANA TIMES, April 18 — The Cuban government published a statement in the Granma newspaper today under the title “For the Second Independence.” In it is an analysis of the recently concluded Summit of the Americas, held in Cartagena, Colombia.

Referring to US President Obama, whose position against the island was supported only by Canada, the article asserts that they “should take care of their own wars, crises and dirty politics; what pertains to Cuba will be dealt with by us Cubans.”

The statement referred to the Organization of American States (OAS) as an “unburied corpse” and endorsed Argentina’s “inalienable right of sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime areas.”

The statement also recalled the position of the ALBA bloc, along with other continental leaders who have decided not to attend any more of these summits unless there is not a radical change in its nature.
