HAVANA TIMES — Left-handed pitcher Norberto González decided to retire from Cuban baseball, reported Prensa Latina.  Gonzalez has played 15 seasons for Cienfuegos in the Cuban League as well as on numerous squads playing in international tournaments.

Gonzalez. 33, told radio listeners in Cienfuegos that he didn’t want to be an obstacle for the development of young prospects in his province.  He also said he had promised himself to retire if he went a season with less than 10 victories.

“This wasn’t a productive season because of injuries and the time to say goodbye has come,” said the pitcher considered Cuba’s best lefthander in recent years.

Gonzalez participated in all three editions of the World Baseball Classic (2006, 2009, 2013) and was on the silver medal team at the Beijing 2008 Olympics.
