Cuban to Participate in Physics Olympiad

HAVANA TIMES — High school student Alejandro Lazaro Alfonso will represent Cuba in the 17th Ibero-American Physics Olympiad, to be held this September in Granada, Spain, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

Alfonso, who belongs to the national physics team, is a high school senior in the central Cuban city of Ciego de Avila. He recently won the gold medal in the national physics competition.

The Cuban student noted in an interview with the Invasor newspaper: “Sometimes you go down the street and things happen that we can’t understand, but the answer lies in this area of science. All everyday processes of life have scientific explanations.”

This Olympics consists of two areas of competition, one theoretical and the other experimental.
