Cuba’s Ministers Discuss Reform Progress

HAVANA TIMES — An expanded meeting of the Cuban cabinet, with the participation of President Raul Castro, recently analyzed the progress of economic reforms adopted at the last congress of the Communist Party.

According to local television on its Monday night report, the situation of the non-payment of debt by state-run enterprises has shown a “slight improvement” in the accounts payable, while “irregularities persist, due to slow collections and payments by some businesses,” said Castro.

The Cuban President considered that adjustments in retail pricing policy and “improvements” in the operations of the departments of Physical Planning and Housing constitute the “beginning of economic restructuring” in the Caribbean country.
