HAVANA TIMES, May 14 — The condition of the only person reported in Cuba with the A (H1N1) virus, a Mexican medical student, is favorably improving, said Manuel Santin, national director of epidemiology.
Another 14 students of the same nationality, which presented symptoms on their return from vacationing in their country, also responded to the preventive antiviral therapies.
While there is still only one case on the island, Cuban health authorities —renowned for their prevention work— are preparing for any eventualities.
Deputy Minister of Public Health Luis Estruch said on Cuban television that the island has sufficient human resources to face a possible pandemic, reported IPS
To date at least 6,497 cases of the new flu have been reported in 33 countries. According to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, these include 4,398 cases in 47 U.S. States and Washington D.C.
