Drugs & Alcohol Led to Exec’s Death

HAVANA TIMES, April 16 — Chilean businessman Roberto Gabriel Baudrand Valdes, who was found dead in his apartment on April 13, died of “acute respiratory insufficiency” related to the consumption of medicines and alcohol, states the Cuban government in an official note published on Friday.

Baudrand was the general manager of the food industry joint venture Rio Zaza.

The cause of death was established in preliminary investigations of the Forensic Medicine Institute.

The note adds that Rio Zaza is currently under audit for possible irregularities and legal violations involving a group of Chilean board members that left the country or did not appear at the beginning of the investigations.  The Cuban authorities had requested that Mr. Baudrand remain in Cuba until the investigations are concluded.
