HAVANA TIMES — The archbishop of Mexico, Cardinal Norberto Rivera, on Sunday will open a traveling exhibition of contemporary art related to Cuba’s Virgin de la Caridad this coming Sunday at the Metropolitan Cathedral in that country’s capital city, reports the ACI Catholic news agency.
The exhibition dedicated to the patron saint of Cuba includes 50 works of art created by artists from the island. These pieces will remain on display for a month.
The exhibition was inaugurated in December of last year in Havana by Cardinal Jaime Ortega and was later exhibited around the island as part of celebrations for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the image of the Virgin de la Caridad, a statue of the Virgin Mary holding the child Jesus, which was found floating off the island’s coast in 1612.
