HAVANA TIMES, May 2 — On Tuesday in Miami, Florida governor Rick Scott signed a law that prohibits state agencies from contracting with any companies that trade with Cuba, reported the Lainformacion.com website.
The bill, introduced this past February by a group of Republican lawmakers, was approved unanimously by the Florida legislature.
The initiative — which will affect companies such as the Brazilian-owned multinational Odebrecht, which is based in Miami — will come into effect on July 1, though it has been rejected by authorities in Canada and Brazil. Likewise, the Florida Chamber of Commerce has described it as unconstitutional.
