HAVANA TIMES — The French government announced on Tuesday the sending of emergency aid totaling 220,000 euros to the people of Haiti, Cuba and Jamaica in the wake of Hurricane Sandy while other assistance was pledged for the longer term, reported the EFE news service.
Of that total amount, the 60,000 euros to Cuba will go directly to non-governmental organizations in the city of Santiago de Cuba, the area that suffered most from the disaster, said Vincent Floreani, the deputy spokesman of the French Foreign Ministry.
Asked if the funds would be managed by the authorities in Havana, the French spokesman said: “No, we will work with the local non-governmental organizations.”
