France Supporting Digitization of Cuban News Archives

HAVANA TIMES — An effort to restore and digitalize Cuban news archives was agreed to in Havana between the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) and France’s National Audiovisual Institute.

The “Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano” archives include a collection of 1,490 weekly broadcasts shown on the island between 1960 and 1990, with this historically valuable information having been created by Cuban documentary filmmaker Santiago Alvarez.

The series became known on the island for its documentaries about Cuba and Latin America during the Cold War.
