Giant Daiquiri for Hemingway in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Yesterday’s 113th birthday of author Ernest Hemingway was celebrated in Old Havana with an extra-super-sized cocktail, reported DPA news.

Twenty bartenders combined 88 bottles of white rum, crushed ice and lemons to create a 275-liter (75-gallon) cocktail. More than 1,000 drinks were distributed from a receptacle measuring 1.95 metres (6 feet) high.

Hemingway spent many of the most productive years of his writing in Cuba and the Floridita was one of the places he frequented often ordering a Daquiri.

To celebrate the birth of the Nobel Prize-winning author, El Floridita’s proprietors mixed a drink that it hopes will land them in the Guinness Book of World Records.
