Investigation on Old Chinese cemetery in Cuba

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban researchers strive to find remnants of a nineteenth-century Chinese cemetery and associated quarantine station within a peninsula belonging to the Mariel Bay, between the capital and the province of Pinar del Río.

According to Prensa Latina, thus far discovered has been the rustic cemetery chapel floor, evidence of a presumed pier, both nineteenth century and part of the stone wall that separated the old hospital from the rest of the area.

The Wall found, evidence of a ditch that bordered the hospital as an element of separation, are unique in Cuba on maritime health.

Exploration will continue this year with the assistance of experts from various provinces , including interested scholars arriving from Hong Kong, because the bones of the Chinese migrants might be the oldest of their kind in the Americas.

Future inquiries will also include marine surveys in a portion of the Bay Area at the Mariel port development zone , where previously appeared crosses and other traces.
