HAVANA TIMES – The prominent Cuban musician Juan Formell, director of Los Van Van, will attend the ceremony of the Latin Grammy Awards on November 21, where he will receive the award for Musical Excellence, Prensa Latina reported.

The artist said Thursday at a press conference that the award has been manipulated, but still constitutes acknowledgment.

Formell noted that “Cuban music is effectively blocked in circuits and mechanisms such as Billboard,” however, his orchestra received the Womex prize last month at the international Music Industry Fair.

Also nominated from Cuba in the fourteenth edition of the Latin Grammy awards were “Cuban Song” by Miriam Ramos, “Vamos pa la fiesta”, from the Septeto Santiaguero, and “Habana tiene su son”, from the Ignacio Piñeiro Septet.
