HAVANA TIMES, March 30 — The president of Mexico, Felipe Calderon, will come to Cuba in April for his first official visit to the island.
The trip was scheduled for 2009 but was canceled “due to the outbreak of the A influenza virus (H1N1) and accusations by Fidel Castro that Mexico had concealed the appearance of the disease so as not to disturb a visit to that country by US president Barack Obama,” reported the dpa agency.
The target date for Calderon’s arrival in Cuba is April 11, after which he will continue his tour on to Haiti and to the Summit of the Americas in Cartagena, Colombia (April14-15).
It is believed that Calderon will seek to talk to with the Cuban leadership on matters related to politics, immigration, the shared exploration of oil resources, trade and investment, human rights and regional integration in Latin America and the Caribbean.
