HAVANA TIMES — A statue of Confucius was unveiled on Wednesday at Shanghai Park in Havana’s Chinatown in the presence of Tong Yun Kai, the president of the world academy named after the Asian philosopher, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.
“Starting today, the statue of Confucius will be in this Chinese neighborhood as a symbol of benevolence, justice, intelligence, confidence and loyalty, in order to unify the people through his ideas,” said Yun Kai.
China remains Cuba’s second largest trading partner for the eighth consecutive year, so the deepening of relations between the two nations is part of the development strategy of the island’s government.
