New Sentence for Two of Cuban Five

HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 8 – Two of the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States charged with conspiracy to commit espionage will receive new sentences today in a court in the city of Miami, reported IPS.  Cuba’s authorities consider the men, known internationally as the Cuban Five, as heroes in the struggle against terrorism.

Ramon Labanino was originally sentenced by the same Florida court to life imprisonment and Fernando Gonzalez to 19 years.   They, and the other three men of the Cuban Five, have been in jail since September 1998.  For the full story on the highly controversial case see the HT article:  Cuban Five: Wrong Guys in Jail
