Project to Save Crabs in Ciénaga de Zapata

HAVANA TIMES, March 30 — A project to save the crab species Gecarcinus ruricola, which every year invades the Ciénaga de Zapata during their reproduction period, was started in this wetland with the backing of the German Nabu NGO, the Centre for Marine Research and the Ministry of Science, Technology and the Environment, reported IPS.   It is estimated that around 3.5 million specimens of this crustacean die due to the traffic on that region’s roads.
