Reasons for Cuba Sugar Decline

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 21 — Technological indiscipline is the principal cause for the plunge in the cultivation of sugarcane in Cuba, judging by the opinions of Ramón Romero and Miguel Pereira, presidents of Agricultural Production Cooperatives, who will attend as delegates the sixth Communist Party Congress in April, reported IPS.

Both agreed that the results are also linked to the lack of labor force’s motivation. “No one is motivated if they don’t earn enough to feed well their families, without good working tools, and if with their daily sweat they can’t aspire to improve or build their home,” Romero noted.

Last harvest year Cuba experienced it’s worse year of sugar production in 105 years.
