Sen. Dorgan Sees End to Ban on Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, March 25 — Several bills to end the travel ban that prohibits US citizens from visiting Cuba without a special Treasury Dept. license are stagnating in congressional committees and President Obama has stepped up his attacks on the Cuban government.

Nonetheless, US Senator Byron Dorgan says he will take such a bill to the Senate floor this summer and expects to get 60 of the 100 senators to vote for it, reported Bloomberg.

Dorgan’s statement came at a tourist industry conference of both Cuban and US executives in Cancun, Mexico on Thursday.

President Obama has never stated whether he would sign a bill that ended the nearly half century travel ban on US citizens from visiting neighboring Cuba.
