“Seven Days in Havana” To Cannes

HAVANA TIMES — The film Seven Days in Havana (Siete Dias en La Habana), shot in Cuba by seven renowned international filmmakers, will be presented at the 65th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, which began yesterday at the famous French resort, reports Café Fuerte.

The film is among the 20 titles selected for showing in the official section named “Un Certain Regard,” which every year dedicates itself to original productions that are seeking distribution and worldwide recognition.

“I’m delighted with the news because it’s a recognition of the artistic dignity of a movie that presented many challenges with respect to implementation and content,” said writer Leonardo Padura, the screenwriter and project coordinator.

The film is a contemporary portrait of Havana through seven different stories told by Benicio del Toro and Julio Medem, Argentina’s Pablo Trapero, French-Argentinian director Gaspar Noe, Frenchman Laurent Cantet, Israeli-Palestinian cinematographer Elia Suleiman, and Cuban director Juan Carlos Tabio.

“Seven days in Havana” premiered here in the capital during the International Festival of New Latin American Cinema this past December.
