HAVANA TIMES, Sept. 14 — Tropical Storm Karl formed Tuesday well south of western tip of Cuba and appears headed for a landing on the Yucatán Peninsula on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Cuban weather experts the storm —currently packing 70 kph (45 mph) maximum sustained winds— is moving west-northwest at 24 kph (15 mph). A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Mexican Yucatan and a TS watch has been issued for northern Belize.

Meanwhile, two hurricanes, the powerful Hurricane Igor and the strengthening Julia continue their course in the Atlantic.
The NHC in Miami says Igor is churning in the Atlantic with its Category 4 power of 235 kph (145 mph). The major storm’s projected route takes it northwest towards the Bermuda Islands.
Several days east, Julia, now packing 135 kph (85 mph) winds, is headed on a course north of Igor, both far away from the western Caribbean where Cuba is located.
The Cuban Meteorological Institute will have a fresh report on Tropical Storm Karl and 6:00 a.m. EST on Wednesday.
