US Gov. Opposes Appeals by Cuban 5

HAVANA TIMES, Dec 13 — The US government requested the Florida Southern District Circuit Court on December 6 to reject the appeals by Ramon Labanino and Fernando Gonzalez, two of the Cuban Five imprisoned in that country since 1998 for conspiring to commit espionage.

The petition objected to the arguments presented on the grounds saying they lack legal merit to be considered by that court. The defense may present its response to this motion in early 2012.

The appeals in question were filed on August 8 and September 12 of this year. However, the judge does not have a fixed deadline for a decision, as was pointed out in the website www.antiterroristas.cu.
