US Lobbyists Promoting New Law Against Cuba

HAVANA TIMES, March 20 — Lobbyists in the United States are pressing Congress to pass a law that will levy a 10 per cent “user fee” on agricultural and telephone companies, remittances and travel transactions involving Cuba.

According to information released on Monday by the “Que pasa Miami” website, the initiative will affect hundreds of thousands of Cuban immigrants who maintain ties with relatives on the island through phone calls, remittances and travel.

The measure would also affect US farmers who sell food to Cuba through limited licensing agreements that are in place as a result of the US blockade, in place for a half century to try to strangle the island’s economy and provoke regime change.
