US Religious Leader Visits Alan Gross

HAVANA TIMES, Dec. 3 — The secretary general of the Council of Churches of Christ in America, Michael Kinnamon, visited US citizen Alan Gross, who is serving 15 years in prison in Cuba. The American was convicted of bringing communications equipment onto the island in an attempt to create illegal internal networks.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the religious leader said he had discussed the issue of Gross’s release with Cuban President Raul Castro.

In addition, Kinnamon spoke out against the US blockade against Cuba, saying that it must end, and he confirmed his intention to communicate his position to the State Department in his country.

The religious leader recalled that his organization’s pro-Cuba stance is not new, noting that it has issued official statements against the blockade since 1968.
