Cuban Chess Players Lose to USA

HAVANA TIMES — The defeat in the fourth table gave the US an advantage from the very beginning at the Pan American Chess Championship taking place team right now in Brazil, reports Cuba’s JIT website.

Isan Ortiz (2,595 Elo points) was responsible for providing the only setback for his team, while the stellar players Leinier Dominguez (2,723), Lazaro Bruzon (2,701) and Yuniesky Quesada (2,595) ended only in draws.

Today (Friday), the Caribbean team will face Uruguay in what is expected an easy victory.

Only four teams are participating, so it was determined that the double round robin system would determine the winner of the only ticket to the World Cup tournament, scheduled for December in Antalya, Turkey.
