Cuban Picks up a Gold in Sweden

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban pole-vaulter Yarisley Silva came in first place at the DN Galan indoor track meet in Stockholm on Thursday, with a vault of 4.78 meters, her personal best, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

A silver medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, she succeeded Russia’s Yelena Isinbayeva on the throne, who last year set the 5.01 meter world record in that same event.

Following the Cuban to the podium at the Ericsson Globe Stadium was Russian athlete Anastasia Savchenko (4.71 meters) and the Czech Republic’s Jirina Ptacnikova-Svobodova (4.64 meters).
