Cuban Platform Divers in 10-Meter Finals

HAVANA TIMES — Cuban platform divers Jose Antonio Guerra and Jeinkler Aguirre will forge on today in their quest for medals when they participate in the individual 10-meter platform competition of the London Olympic Games, reported the Prensa Latina news agency.

In a discipline dominated by China, with its six out of seven possible golds, the veteran Guerra and the young Aguirre will try to place themselves high up among the 18 semifinalists in the final competition, where the favorite is the Chinese athlete Bo Qiu, the Shanghai World Champion in 2011.

The Cubans finished fifth in the synchronized platform competition with 450.90 points, behind the pairs from China, Mexico, USA, and Britain.

These are the fourth Olympics for Guerra, who celebrated his 33rd birthday yesterday and hopes to improve upon his fifth place position achieved in that contest in Beijing in 2008.
