Cuban Receives ‘Ippon Trophy’ in Brazilian Judo Tournament

HAVANA TIMES — Judoist Maricet Espinosa received the Ippon Trophy for her efforts in the World Championship with teams from Salvador de Bahia, Brazil, where the Cuban team won the bronze medal, reported the official press.

The International Federation of Judo granted the award to Espinosa after she recorded four Ippon successes in less than one minute on Saturday in the 63 kilos class, according to trainer Ronaldo Veitia.

The Cuban judoist finished unbeaten in her four matches with her team, which won in the preliminaries against Algeria (5-0) and Turkey (4-1); however they went down to the Japanese (0-1) in the semifinals before defeating Russia (3-2) in the competition for the bronze.
