Cuban Women’s Volleyball Players to Participate in 1st Pan American Youth Cup

HAVANA TIMES — A Cuban female team is participating in the 1st Pan American Youth (under 23) Volleyball Cup, to be held in the Peru’s Miguel Grau Coliseum, in El Callao, from today until September 8, EFE reported.

Among the Cuban players called on to take part in this tournament are Yohana Palacios, Alena Rojas, Taimara Lezcay and Sulien Matienzo, all of whom made up the squad that finished sixth place in the 2012 Grand Prix.

The tournament will feature eight countries competing in two groups. Cuba is in Group A along with Brazil, Argentina and Colombia, while in Group B includes Peru, the Dominican Republic, Canada and Costa Rica.

Cuban Volleyball experienced a recent drop to fifth place at the Norceca Tournament in Nicaragua for players less than 20 years of age.
