Higinio Velez to Manage Cuba’s WBC Team

HAVANA TIMES, Feb. 8 – Higinio Velez, who managed Cuba’s runner-up team in the First World Baseball Classic in 2006, has been tapped for another try in the Second Classic set for March 5-23. Velez is the current president of the Cuban Baseball Federation.

To allow the Cuban team’s roster to practice for the Classic the current national baseball season takes a long break after today’s games. Cuba plays its first round in the WBC in Mexico City in Pool C against Australia, South Africa and the host Mexico. The top two teams will move on to the second round in San Diego, California.
